AG candidate Andrea Campbell has been endorsed by Worcester Mayor Joe Petty.

Worcester Mayor Joe Petty is slated to endorse Andrea Campbell for Massachusetts attorney general on Friday afternoon, as the former Boston City Councilor visits with community leaders and elected officials there as part of her new “Listening to Gateway Cities” tour.

Petty, who is running for state Sen. Harriette Chandler’s seat, will formally endorse Campbell outside Worcester City Hall at 4:45 p.m. Friday. It’s the latest high-profile showing of support for Campbell, who’s also secured endorsements from U.S. Sen. Ed Markey and House Speaker Ron Mariano. Chandler, 84, is retiring when her term ends this year.

Campbell announced her plans to visit all 26 Gateway Cities, considered vital hubs for economic development, throughout Massachusetts earlier this week. She launched the tour Tuesday in Chelsea, where the former Boston mayoral candidate met with community organizations including La Colaborativa, which empowers Latino and Latinx immigrants, Campbell’s campaign said.

On Friday, Campbell will travel to Southbridge before heading to Worcester. Campbell’s first stop is at 11 a.m., as she and Worcester City Councilor Sarai Rivera tour RMG Medical Group Center, according to a campaign news release Thursday.

Campbell will meet with members of Worcester’s “legal community” at 1 p.m. The campaign did not specify attendees for the meeting, which is closed to the media.

At 4 p.m., Campbell will tour the Edward M. Kennedy Community Health Center with state Reps. Jim O’Day and Dan Donahue. Following Petty’s endorsement, Campbell will holding a community meet-and-greet with local elected officials and business leaders at 5 p.m. at Funky Murphys Bar & Grill, her campaign said.

In the race for attorney general, Campbell faces labor attorney Shannon Liss-Riordan and Quentin Palfrey, a lawyer and former Democratic nominee for lieutenant governor. Liss-Riordan earlier Thursday challenged her AG opponents to a debate on climate change this month to coincide with Earth Month.
